Dull, cliché, and unintellectualIt is clear that questions things inspired the creation of this movie. "How can we make a movie around our feminist misconceptions?" and "How can we get as much product placement into this as possible." I read other reviews about people not liking Melissa McCarthy. I frankly think she is very talented, and hopefully this movie was just the dud of her career. This movie was terrible. It was not even entertaining. Basically the movie goes through some cliché spy movie stuff, of which this movie was meant to be a satire of, but fell terribly flat. The whole movie was filled from the viewpoint of feminist misconceptions. I am down for good political satire, but this was so out there that it did not work. One of th worst movie I have seen in years, and it did not make me go out and buy the plethora of products that they placed through the whole movie. Movies like this make me wonder about the future of the film industry being viable.

The Park Is Awesome, Yet...It was cool and fun to watch Jurassic World, yet it didn't deliver what I was expecting. I don't want to jump to hasty conclusions, the movie was good, above good, and it has some mesmerizing very well-made sequences, and amazing action, but it lacked something... a spirit maybe.Yes, its very heavy on the nostalgia, and yes there are moments that will bring tears to your eyes if you are a die-hard fan, also it's full of Easter eggs, but the awe and wonder was not enough. Some said that Jurassic World is the best sequel since the original, maybe it tops "The Lost world" at some parts, but The Lost World has more strength points over it. If you are expecting it to be more then a generic creature film, I think then it is not the one for you.I actually don't know how to feel, and the funny thing is that all the issues I worried about, turned to be the best stuff in the movie. The I. rex, the semi-friendly raptors, the Apatasaurus head. They even threw a line that explains the scientific inaccuracies in the dinosaurs, now everything is acceptable within the universe. On the other hand, the story had it's corny parts, and It lacked depth, there wasn't any kind of scientific debate as the first 2 movies, nothing at all.The CGI was beyond awesome, settle down all your fears, It's perfect, and works very well on the big screen. Only at 1 or 2 moments you may feel that it's a little off. The T. rex, oddly and unfortunately, she was the least impressive CGI in the movie, along with the Ankylosaurus.The animatronic shot was brilliant, I wonder why they didn't use more animatronics, as from what I've seen they seems to have improved vastly over the years. There were many close-ups here, especially for the raptors, that animatronics would have worked perfectly for, but they didn't went with that option.It will take more than one viewing to really see everything in this imagined little world they have created. The park is open, and yes, the park is awesome, but I think it will take some consideration to fully endorse it.Maybe the long wait raised my expectations up to the sky, maybe this is why I'm a little disappointed... but the one thing I'm sure of, It's that Jurassic World doesn't get anywhere near to the level of Spielberg's original... long live Jurassic Park.6.5/10

Surprisingly effective horror gimmick!"Never Have I Ever"...seen something so innovative in a long time. Unfriended, a new found footage horror film, is about a group of older teenagers whose normal social life on Skype turns in a nightmare when a supposedly possessed Skype account begins making threats. Exactly one year earlier, a girl named Laura Barns committed suicide after an embarrassing video of her was anonymously posted on YouTube. These friends discover that the account belongs to the late Laura herself. After making some threats, "Laura" warns that she'll begin killing people if secrets aren't revealed and justice isn't served. Unfriended takes a whole new approach to horror storytelling with the entire film being "set" on Blaire Lily's (Hennig) computer screen, and it works incredibly well. It's a very gripping concept, and while we're all expecting jump scares, which do happen about once or twice, the scares build up like all good horror films should...slowly and naturally. The tension is truly built off of the genuine feeling of a supernatural presence as well as some well-constructed creepiness, including Laura possibly being in one of the friends' rooms. Laura's threats progress into a game that brings up and reveals all kinds of rumors and secrets that this close group of friends have kept from one another, which include cheating and ripping off money. Although these characters aren't too thickly drawn, watching the truth break is truly sad, especially to one main male character in particular. The fear is further heightened with some terrific acting by a wide range of unknowns, with the best performance being from Hennig, of course. I didn't find any big flaws with this movie besides character depth, but some of the scares could've just been a wee better. Overall, I walked out of the theater terrified but not enough to have trouble sleeping or fear going on the computer. Why else am I here typing this review? Prepare for something new.

Not for fans of substance; Jupiter Ascending is a glossy, entertaining, hot mess.I'm not sure how to start this review so I'll just get right into it: This movie isn't good. It makes no sense. There is no room to get immersed in this world because there is no story to relate to. It's all just stuff happening; fluff. Beautiful, well made fluff mind you, but at its core this movie is a steaming hot mess.Here's the plot from what I gathered: Mila Kunis is suddenly the majesty of the Earth and has to protect it from a bunch of rich douchebags that live in Jupiter's atmosphere who want to use it for harvesting grounds or something. It's a dumb plot, and every scene that tries to move the plot forward is a scene wasted. The only interesting parts of this movie are the visuals and Channing Tatum's character, but even he is given absolutely no character development. He's just a badass space agent, or something. I don't even remember.The characters end up the same way they began - there was no journey to redemption or revelation for anyone. It was just do this, do that, stop this, go home, the end. And they try to include multiple stories, like Mila Kunis' relationship with her family (boooring); Caine (Tatum) and Stinger's (Sean Bean) history (wholly underdeveloped), the whole villain arc...The villains in this movie are spoiled brats. Seriously. They're not scary, they're not intimidating, there was no point in the movie where I was like "oh man sh*t is about to go down"; there was just no intrigue. Their motives were all over the place. It's not worth trying to piece together every plot point they throw into the movie because it will just lead to confusion and disappointment, and eventually frustration when you realize how much potential was wasted in creating this massive universe. The lizards looked really cool. Why not have more of them? Oh we're just going to focus on the playboy brat now, okay.I really wanted to care about this universe. It has a Star Wars vibe in parts, like the "royal" wedding scene and the space battles, but there were no good characters to experience this adventure with. You're just watching things happen with no consequences, or at least none you cared about.The acting was fine in this movie. Channing Tatum and Sean Bean in particular gave great performances, and Eddie Redmayne as the primary antagonist was decent as well. Yeah, he's an Academy Award winner, and as much as I hate to say it I have not seen The Theory of Everything yet but I loved him in Les Mis so I was really hoping he would save this movie. Unfortunately the material he's given is absolute garbage, so in an effort to make the character stand out, Redmayne give him a weird, eerie, whisper voice that was akin to a hundred year old man trying to force words out from the back of his throat. But hey, I think it worked. The guy is completely unlikeable so might as well give him a unique trait to remember him by. Good on Mr. Redmayne because he succeeded. The only things I will remember about this movie are the cool visuals, the wasted potential, and his creepy voice.Don't see this movie. Unless you want to see some really great CGI for a couple hours, which can be found in much better places by the way, you won't find anything worth salvaging from Jupiter Ascending. It was a nice effort but ultimately a swing and a miss.

One of Liam Neeson's finest!Liam Neeson plays retired hit-man, James Conlon, and it's one of the finest roles he's played in years with a great performance, and with additional superb acting from Joel Kinnaman, whom plays his son, Mike Conlon. The first 'Taken' may have turned out great, until it launched a franchise, but 'Run All Night' is a definite improvement over Neeson's latest work, and a major improvement over clichéd action movies released in the past decade. What makes it so good, is that Neeson brings company with him: his co-star Kinnaman who plays his son

• and it's a different movie experience altogether as in most clichéd

action thrillers the main protagonist, usually played by a familiar action star, is usually without company the whole way through. The character James Conlon is so similar to Jimmy Bobo, a part Sylvester Stallone played in a movie called 'Bullet to the Head'. Jimmy Bobo was an ageing hit-man who still made hits on assignments, but compared to Conlon, he's more emotionless and merciless. Neeson's Conlon still had good in his heart somewhere, whereas Bobo cared more about killing and seeking vengeance. However, the action sequences are enjoyable and thrilling, acting is great and the direction and screen writing becomes intriguing whenever the main plot kicks in - so Run All Night has what it takes of being one of the most exciting movies of the year!

A very funny Mae Whitman helps turn The Duff from an unoriginal story to a hilarious situationBefore I hang out with friends, I always check to see if anyone's going to join. If it's just a buddy and me, then no trouble. If he decides to bring someone else, then part of me feels violated. It's not that I want my bud all to me, but he should know by now that I can't stand people that come along for the purpose of tagging along. That's not to say that the sudden visitor can't be interesting. If I'm not told of a newcomer, then my friend is allowing him to have dinner with us because something is bugging him.Another assumption that I make is that he's brining someone else not out of pity, but out of ego. My best friend is not good looking enough to lead a group of friends on his own, so he (okay us) have held this system since elementary school that we'll group up with cooler kids in case we needed the chance in social status. This has allowed us to lead two clubs and have even played roles in the student ASB in high school. One girl tests the unbound waters of high school social statuses and cliques in The Duff.A cult film fanatic Bianca (played by Mae Whitman) is in the middle of her senior year in high school and seems to be in a good position with her friends, Jess and Casey. They all attend a party that goes bad rather fast when a neighbor boy Wes, who is also a star player on the schools football team, stupidly reveals that Bianca is the duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). Wes tries to explain that one does not need to be ugly or fat to be the duff, that makes Bianca mad enough to throw her drink at him and leave the part.Bianca grows to realize that she is the duff of her friends and breaks it off fast enough that the word spreads online (there's a lot of social media references in this movie). Now knowing of her position in school as a approachable but not datable girl, she turns to Wes in help with changing her identity. They strike a deal that if he can help her get a date with Troy, a guitar boy she likes, then she will help Wes pass his science class. Poor Bianca also has to deal with a bully girl Madison, who wants to be a future reality TV star, her school's newspaper teacher Mr. Arthur (played by Ken Jeong) and her criticizing mother Mrs. Piper (played by Alison Janney).The Duff is formulaic and I mean really formulaic. I'm talking about Saved by the Bell kind of repetition that few films would dare go into as for being unoriginal. The story of a school girl dreaming of being the idol is nothing new, so if one should go into this kind of territory, then there better be something new brought here. Luckily, there is something…Mae Whitman.I'll admit that she made me laugh hard. I haven't laughed this hard for a high school movie probably since Easy A or Mean Girls. She brought a lot of spunky personality to a character that could have easily been made the dweeb. I wanted to see where her character was going to go with her sudden insight that people use her to get to her friends. The rest do fine, though nothing new (though Alison Janney got plenty laughs out of me). Had the setup told something new along side the unique character, we could have gotten one of the best high school movies, though The Duff is charming enough to at least recommend as a comedy.I'll give this eight duff beers out of ten (you knew this pun was coming). I'd say that the performer truly saved the story as it's nothing new. The Duff should be loved by teens and even a few adults that either were this person who knew someone that was.
